Use of natural plant extracts as a novel microbiological quality indicator in raw milk: An alternative for resazurin dye reduction method

In the present study, we propose a novel field-scale analytical tool for rapid screening of microbiological quality in raw milk using aqueous extracts plant materials, i.e. flowers (e.g. Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. and Clitoria ternatea), taproots Beta vulgaris) pricklypears Opuntia dillenii). For each extract, colour changes were evaluated between 4.5 6.5 pH against resazurin dye as control. The anthocyanin content extract was analyzed by differential method spectrophotometer. flower opted to further test since it had pH-sensitive change (6.5; maroon 6.2; light-pink) compared other extracts, which did not indicate noticeable variation with pH. Anthocyanin 0.59 g/mL. showed high linearity (R2 = 0.95), 100% accuracy greater repeatability an intermediate level precision. limit quantification detection 0.46 0.15 g/mL, respectively. conclusion, demonstrated potential water alternative reduction accurate control procurement remote areas.
